The Optical Fibre
At the heart of any fibre optic lighting system are the optical light guides. These are the conveyors of light, leaving heat, UV, IR and electricity – along with maintenance – at the source location, and delivering only light in the visible spectrum to the outputs.
Fibre is available in many types and qualities. Being independent of any fibre manufacturers, Absolute Action can select which type of fibre best suits each given application, and regularly test and compare the performance of fibre from different sources around the world.
As a general rule , the company will use only the very best quality optical glass fibre for all architectural lighting applications, where performance of white light transmission is critical and durability of abiding concern. Such fibre is available in various standard bore diameters, varying from 0.75mm up to 14mm, with larger sizes manufactured specially for more challenging applications. Mixed sizes may be combined within a single harness, as can variable lengths.
The number of output points that can be generated from a single source is dependent upon the total of the combined bore diameters of all the light guides in that system. The majority of Absolute Action’s harnesses are manufactured with threaded – often proprietary – ferrules at output for focusing adjustment against the optical heads, and at input with very high temperature resin or fused glass for optimum longevity of the fibre bundle.
