Bentall Centre

The stunning grid matrix effect was created by 60 concealed light sources feeding nearly 2,000 fibre light points. Absolute Action provided a unique solution to the problem of creating a lighting system that would provide enhancement at night without compromising the open aspects of the structure during daylight. This meant that the fibre optics themselves needed to disappear into and be camouflaged by the structural metalwork - all of which was white.

The solution was unique and practical: every single element of the fibre optic systems was also finished in white, and sized and shaped to 'disappear'. As a result it did not overpower the general retail lighting in the main shopping mall and yet created a stunning ambience for all those walking beneath it.

The fibre optic system also reduces maintenance requirments and energy consumption is minimual. Each fibre light point consumes the equivalent of some 5 watts and - over twenty years later - nothing but standard routine maintenance has ever been required to keep all those light points shining brightly and reliably!
