Metro Canopy - Washington

The lighting design for the new canopies, developed to protect the pedestrian escalators from the elements, formed part of the overall prize-winning architectural package. The challenge of fulfilling its performance criteria within that design brief was placed at Absolute Action's doorstep to resolve.

The same lighting delivery, to uplift and outline the metal structure, was required for all of the canopies, regardless of their sometimes extreme differences in physical shape and size.

Bespoke lightsources, small enough to be concealed within the structural beams, were developed specially, as were callibrated lensed output heads to monitor the exact performance data of the prototype lens heads.

These were tested live on site in Washington DC during the actual installation, the results being transmitted back to the factory in the UK for the fixtures to finish being machined in matching tilt and focal specification. The final fixtures were then couriered back out to Washington, and the installation process duly completed
